Home of MY BABY BLUES cattery.

Where our kittens are like miniature people in cat's pajamas.

 Our first litter!

Cinco de Mayo ended up being quite the long day here at our house.  At 2:36 am I was awakened by a high pitch, mewing kind of noise.  Ohmygosh, Ani where did you get to?!  She was sort of sitting on the first of the kittens and seemed rather clueless about what was going on.  About 15 minutes later a second kitten arrived but was stillborn.  OK, the vet predicted at least 4, so I was ready for the rest.  Except they didn't come.

Monday morning Ani, the baby and I headed off to the vet's office, much to her chagrin.  Via x-ray and ultra-sound he was able to determine that there was one more baby that needed to join the family.  His advice was to call the office around 4pm and aprise them of Ani's condition.  No kitten by 4:00.  Next step we wait until Tuesday morning and then see if the kitten had made it's debut into the world.

Tuesday morning came but the kitten didn't.  So back to the vet we went.  Oxytocin was the next option, in the hopes of getting her labor started.  After 4 doses and still no kitten, the vet called with the verdict that no one wants to hear.  A C-section was pretty much the only route available and was scheduled for after lunch.   The kitten was still alive, or at least it had been when I dropped them off.  After a reasonable recovery period, Ani should be able to have more kittens according to the vet.

Around 3:30 my cell phone rang, it was the vet.  The surgery was just finished, he was just literally pulling off his gloves.  Ani had made it through;  she wasn't awake yet but she was starting to come out of it.  It was weak but the baby had made it through too.  "Preliminary" observation says that Ani is the new mommy of a boy and a girl (I don't k now which one was born first;  they all look alike when they're that young, and in all honesty I didn't even look.)

No pictures yet, but will post them soon; Ani's little Jose (as in Cuervo,) and Rita (as in Margarita--and boy, could I use one after the last couple of days!)

Almost 6 months old...

Rita and Jose are now almost 6 months old....Rita's known as Tasha, and lives in New Jersey.  Jose's new name is Orrie, and he lives in New York State.  We've kept in touch with their families, who've so kindly provided us with pictures.  We've even been to visit Orrie twice!
